Lauren Glass is the southern entrepreneur behind Throw Pillows, a give back company. This 25 year old entrepreneur is already seven years into her journey and there's no stopping her. At the age of 18 she was wrestling with her purpose and the work she wanted to spend her life doing. Being 5' 0" she ruled out being an olympic volleyball player, and quickly realized that there was no career in watching Netflix so she set out to discover her "thing". One day she asked herself the question "If I were to die right now, what would people say about me?" and her life changed forever. Lauren founded Beds4kids to help provide mattresses for children who were without. She was in the process of writing grant proposals and soon realized that this process was risky and slow to produce results. Her entrepreneurial spirit jumped in and she decided to fund her non-profit by launching the give … [Read More...]

We all have skills, things we're gifted or naturally inclined to do well. We can build on and add to these skills throughout life through school, work, experiences, and other education. We hold these skills in our hands, all of us have them and none of our hands are empty. The question isn't what we hold in our hands, but what we see in our hands. If I give you an apple, what do you see? Do you see a healthy afternoon snack? Something you enjoy in an obvious way or do you see more? Maybe you see seed that can be turned into a tree, which results in a bushel of apples. Maybe you see an orchard of trees all grown from this one seed. Or maybe you see beyond the seed, beyond the bushel, beyond the orchard to all the yummy possibilities. What is the difference between the afternoon snack and the endless possibilities, imagination. Success is possible when you imagine … [Read More...]
When was the last time that you let yourself imagine? When was the last time that you let your dreams just go, allowing your thoughts to run wild. For many of us adulthood has brought with it extreme reality, leaving little or no room for imagination. We may think imagination is just for the crazy artists or the movie makers in Hollywood. The truth is that imagination is for people of all ages and can play a key role in determining your success. Albert Einstein said "Imagination is more important than knowledge." When we find ourselves frustrated (where most new ideas come from) we have a tendency to react. If we're frustrated with working for someone else we decide to launch our own business. I coach entrepreneurs and one of things I hear a lot is "this isn't what I thought it would be like." Imagination is the cure for this problem. If you're traveling somewhere new you … [Read More...]
The creative journey that we're on is tough, exhausting and at times overwhelming. What would happen if you quit? Seriously, what would happen if you called it quits? This a group of creatives: some of us are in existing businesses using our creativity to support and grow established businesses, some of us are solo artists trying to make it as writers, photographers, artists and others of us are building a tribe about an idea or thought. All of these can be exhausting and can push us to the edge. So what would happen if you quit? To be honest....it would probably feel great. What if we stopped moving forward and decided to stay where we are, doing what we've been doing? We would probably feel relieved.....and then we wouldn't. Our ideas for business, art and creativity are not some frivolous thing we pursue out of boredom or restlessness, they're birthed out of the depths of … [Read More...]

If you haven’t met me yet, I’m Mel. I run The Nomadic Wife where you can find free recipes and seasonal meal plans that include lots of veg. Awesome right? Right. If you listen to Onward Creative podcasts, which you should, you can find me chatting with Jack on episode 3 of season 2. Near the end of the episode, Jack & I discussed my 100 rejection project. What on earth is that you ask? Well, it’s quite simple. My goal is to submit to enough publications to get 100 “No’s” by the end of the year. Sounds pretty crazy right? Now, why would I want to get rejected? Glad you asked. Truth is, I don’t. No one does. Despite my tough-enough outer shell, my inner 5 year old always screams and tantrums when I get a rejection. Why? Well, it doesn’t really feel good does it? No one wants to be rejected. Yet it happens to all of us some of the time. The idea here is that if you aim … [Read More...]
