You are definitely your best asset! But the reality is....in spite of what our mom said, none of us are perfect. We each have unique personalities and giftings but none of us are great at everything. Regardless of whether we're self-employed or working within an existing company or organization we're guaranteed to be more successful if we build around who we are. There are three ways to build around who we are: 1. Build around your personality. We use the Meyers Briggs test to dive into who we are. Not only is it helpful to better understand what you do naturally, it also helps to understand the roles that will drain you. One of the weaknesses of my personality is that I have difficulty focusing on details. So I have to double down in this part of my work, or hire someone to help me with this. It's great to have someone close to you fill in these gaps with their … [Read More...]

We started 2016 in Copenhagen, Denmark. We had a nice house, decent car, a job, great friends, a routine.....a great life. But below the surface there was turmoil and dissonance.....a change was brewing. By March we had made the decision to change our life and so we did what anyone with a great life does....we quit our job! The following months would bring more change than imaginable and we would soon find ourselves in the US with no house, no car, no job, few friends and no sense of routine or normality. As the year continued on all of the things that were broken suddenly began to fall in place again. And by the end of 2017 we found ourselves with a new house, cars, a great job, new friends and a new version of routine. Was it worth it? Without any doubt the answer is a resounding YES! Change is hard. Pursuing your best life is hard. And to be honest, it doesn't always … [Read More...]

I was working around the clock, drinking coffee like a mad woman and had jitters to the point that being hooked up to a coffee IV would have probably felt the same. When I wasn’t chained to my desk, I was partying all night long, spending my hard earned cash on endless rounds of drinks. Trying to forget it all. I got in with the wrong crowd. We went to underground bars and got into any mischief worth the thrill. During the day, I was chasing after every new shiny thing because society told me that it’s what I was supposed to do. Consume more. New phone, new laptop, perfectly pressed outfit & friends who complimented me on my expensive haircut or my freshly manicured nails. I was leading a pretty posh life, but I was unhappy - exhausted really - and it just wasn’t happening. I wasn’t getting any closer to the life I wanted. It always seemed so far out of reach. To make things … [Read More...]
Regardless of your business most of us concentrate our time and efforts on a few key things....creating the product, marketing, sales, distribution, social media.....but we often forget one key thing....ourself. If we want to move beyond a transaction to an experience the key is a relationship....and at the heart of that relationship is you. Most of our spaces are crowded with everyone fighting for the same attention, marketshare and customers. So if we're comparing apples to apples....we'll always buy from the nicest farmer. Sadly, many of us place ourselves and our development at the bottom of the pile and we end up robbing ourselves and our customers of the best version of ourselves. So let's make sure that we develop the thing that people really want....you! … [Read More...]
We have so much to be grateful for. If we look at where we started in 2016 and where we all are now....there's so much to celebrate. I love this time of the year in America because we take a day to simply give thanks (and eat pie). I know for some the meaning has gotten diluted with shopping and all....but for me....I still take time to reflect and process everything that has happened. As we all begin to wrap up the year this is a great time to begin making list of all the things we are grateful for. I think there are three key things to be grateful for: 1. The things you wanted and you got. What did you want this year? Start a blog? Write a book? Launch a business? Which of those things did you accomplish? Make sure to celebrate how far you've come! You are not in the same on December 1 as you were on January 1...and this is worth celebrating! 2. The things you got but never knew … [Read More...]
